HISTORY

Port of Twente’s Logistic Association was founded in 2012, initially due to the problems at the lock in Eefde and the need for good collaboration between the companies dependent on transport by water, the vessels trapped on the canal and Rijkswaterstaat as manager of the canal.

Between 2013 and 2016, Logistic Association worked to improve the general conditions as the basis for attracting more logistics companies to Twente, plus the association played a key role in promoting the benefits of Twente as a logistics base to companies from outside of the region.

Once Twente’s logistics importance had become more widely recognized and the conditions were up to scratch, Logistic Association’s attention shifted to other topics such as the labour market and a combined regional approach to sales. In 2017, this new focus resulted in XL Businesspark, the Twente port authority and Logistic Association joining forces to promote Port of Twente as an important logistics hotspot in Europe.
